With con season on the brain, we realized we'd never really done a con survival guide for the podcast. And the con survival we'd done for the blog is now years old so we hope we have at least learned a few new things since then. So get hyped for con season as we delve out advice on potential convention options, running panels, avoiding bootlegs in the Dealers Room, and much more. Dave from ANN's Astro Toy helps out in our Dealers Room segment about bootlegs, too! And now your helpful bartenders at The Speakeasy present your drink: Con Hangover 2oz Gin Mix together with crushed ice in a glass and garnish with mint leaves. |

We are talking about comedy this month. We are not talking about the Shakespearean comedy, the Divine Comedy, or the Studio 4C short film but comedy as it relates to anime. So often anime comedy strikes viewers as quite different than the comedy they are used to but why is the question. What about the aesthetic makes it so different from the comedy we know? What makes it so different from the comedy you see on Japanese dramas as well? We will also examine the different styles of humor you see in anime. Plus the most important question: Why do people think K-ON! is funny? And now your helpful bartenders at The Speakeasy present your drink: The Joker 2 shots vodka Mix together with lots of ice and stir.

There is a lot for fans of the Universal Century to celebrate this month: the 34th anniversary of the original Gundam series, the re-release of the first book of Gundam: The Origin in English, and the release of the 6th episode of Gundam Unicorn. In that spirit, we has decided to look at the women in the original Gundam universe. That means the good, the bad, and the awesome when it comes to the female characters of Gundam. Everyone from Emma Sheen to Nina Purpleton to Shakti Kareen. We left the various women of the AU Gundam lines for another day. And now your helpful bartenders at The Speakeasy present your drink: Ladies Night 2 oz strawberry vodka
1 cup 7-Up 3 oz fruit juice Chill all ingredients. Add together in a beautiful champagne glass and share with the ladies.

Episode 1 of Attack on Titan from Production I.G and Wit Studio with the opening "Guren no Yumiya" by Linked Horizon. It is streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation. The premise of these reviews is simple: watch the first episode of a series and then immediately sit down to record a review mini-podcast. The reviews are five- to ten-minutes long and entirely off the cuff. As always we only review new shows (so no sequels or continuations) and try to avoid anything that just looks outright awful. |
